Strefa Cafe (cont'd) ... Smaczne Jedzenie (Tasty Food)!

Updated: Oct 22, 2021

Sniadanie cały dzień | Breakfast all day

Strefa Cafe is more than a coffee shop ... though it features a wonderful assortment of cappuccino, latte, and other beverages. It's also a fantastic place for breakfast or lunch!

On one of my early visits, in a conversation with the owner/barista extraordinaire, Michał, I hit on the idea of trying each of the menu items. The thought came in part from my continuing quest to learn more of the Polish language (in digestible bites, you might say!), and also because many of the items on the board (see photo above) sounded delicious.

So ... we started with the first menu item, "2 GRZANKI Z GUACAMOLE + 1 LUB 2 SMAŻONE JAJO" ... and to practice my numbers, I said that each visit, I'd go to the next number, starting with JEDEN (1) - the 2 toasts with guacamole and 1 or 2 fried eggs (I chose 1 egg). As you can see in the photo, this was a wonderful choice -- the toasts were just right, guacamole was generous and tasty, the egg was a fascinating and very appealing addition, and on the other the tomatoes were very flavorful ... and it was topped with scallions, giving a great light 'bite' to the dish. Paired with a małe (small) cappuccino, my seat on the balcony, it was a fantastic start to my breakfast adventures!

Visit #2 confirmed the pattern and brought chuckles to a few folks working behind the counter ... after a hearty "dzień dobry" (good morning), I confidently said that I'll have number 2 ("poprosze numer dwa") ... followed by a severe butchering of the actual item ... "JAJECZNICZA Z 3 JAJ + SAŁATKA + MAS ŁO + PIECZYWO" a/k/a 3 scrambled eggs, salad, bread and butter. My pronunciation has definitely improved since that day! This was a great breakfast -- fluffy eggs, hearty bread, and another wonderful cup of cappuccino. (By the way, Strefa features a cup of coffee of your choice for 1zl - US 25 cents - with breakfast. Nice!)

I continued my regular visits, working through the menu line by line. See below for my photo catalogue -- proof that I've sampled each of the menu items at Strefa!

Alas, though, now when I visit (such as today -- I'm typing this from "my table" on the balcony, enjoying being outside on a beautiful morning!), I'm faced with the stress of having to actually choose what I want to eat. It was so nice to walk in and only have to remember what number's next (well, and to say it in Polish!).

How lucky am I :-)

Enjoy my gallery of Strefa dishes. I'm working through round 2, having started with the owsianka (oatmeal) on Monday (this time without the chocolate), and today was mozzarella paninis. So many choices for my next visit! (Hover over the food photos for the menu item -- you can work on your Polish!)

P.S. Thanks for scrolling all the way down! I'll add a few notes for those who made it this far:

[1] Notice the changing colors of the leaves outside in the series of photos up to the granola/yogurt.

[2] Notice that I had to move inside for the granola/yogurt and the (AMAZING!) salad. We had a cold week last week, but I'm back outside (na zewnątrz) today. Yay!

[3] The beverages are fantastic ... I tried quite a few of those as well (sadly none decaf, but I'm adjusting to caffeine), but have pretty much settled on cappuccino. I'm a big fan of kawa z mlekiem (coffee with milk), and the Strefa cappuccino suits my tastebuds!
